Romantic Folly Beach Engagement Photos at Sunrise | A South Carolina Love Story

Engagement

June 14, 2026

If you need proof that waking up before sunrise can actually be worth it, Sarah and Ryan’s Folly Beach engagement photos might convince you! We met up just as the sun was coming up, and between the quiet beach, the soft morning light, and these two making each other laugh nonstop, it was such a fun way to start the day. Sarah and Ryan actually went to high school together but didn’t really connect until their senior year religion class. Ryan was also responsible for the first promposal in their school’s history (a gummy bear poster that Sarah still has, which honestly makes the story even better). They’ve been inseparable ever since, and spending a morning with them made it very clear why!

Folly Beach Engagement Photos with a Sunrise Start

One of the best parts about photographing at sunrise is having the beach almost completely to yourselves. No crowds, no distractions, just a couple getting to hang out together while the sun comes up over the water. Sarah and Ryan made my job incredibly easy because they were so comfortable together. Most of the session felt less like taking photos and more like tagging along on a morning beach walk. They spent the entire time talking, laughing, and making each other smile without even trying. Those are always my favorite kinds of sessions because nothing feels forced.

Why I Loved These Folly Beach Engagement Photos

Folly Beach is one of those locations that always delivers. Between the shoreline, the old wooden pier remains, the ocean views, and the soft light in the morning, there are so many great spots without having to go far. I also loved how Sarah and Ryan fully leaned into the experience. They kicked off their shoes, walked through the surf, brought along a classic red convertible for a few photos, and weren’t worried about making everything look perfect. The result was a gallery that felt natural, fun, and completely like them. Honestly, it felt more like a date than a photoshoot, which is usually when the best photos happen.

If you’re looking for engagement photos that feel relaxed and actually fun, take this as your sign to consider a sunrise session. The light is beautiful, the beach is quiet, and you get an excuse to spend a couple of hours hanging out with your favorite person. Sarah and Ryan’s session was such a good reminder that the best photos don’t come from perfect poses, they come from being yourselves.
