I get asked more time than not, if my clients can bring their pet to their session. Every time my answer is HECK YEAH. But, if you’re a pet parent already, then I’m sure you know… they can be a lot of work and bringing them out for your photo session is no different. Here are my five tips for successfully bringing your pet along and making sure everything runs smoothly!

1.BRING A FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER TO BABYSIT

Like I said before, being a pet parent can be a lot of work. At your session I want to make sure you are at complete ease and ready to have fun and look amazing in your photos. Which means I don’t want you to have to worry about chasing your pet around or making sure their leash is tied up safely, especially if we are in a busy public setting. Bring along your pets favorite family member or friend to watch them when it isn’t their time to shine in front of the camera!

2. BRING TREATS

Just like kids, we need an advantage or bribe to get the pets attention. Bring their favorite treat or human snack so I can use it behind the camera to bring their eyes towards me! And remember, sometimes the candid ones are the cutest. So if your pet isn’t participating just roll with it. The ones that feel the most chaotic turn out the cutest!

3. KEEP THEM HYDRATED

Pets usually get pretty excited when they have the chance to run around and take cut pics with their humans. I recommend giving them plenty of water before the session, as well as during! Bring a small water bowl and some cold water so you don’t have to worry about them being overheated.

4. CHECK THE LOCATION IS PET FRIENDLY

I just discovered this tip at my last session. To me, who the heck wouldn’t want pets in their area. Make sure to double check the location of your session to ensure your pets are welcome and educate yourself on any rules or permits needed. Doing all of the research beforehand helps keep you at ease the day of and come prepared!

5. HAVE THEM GROOMED

You want your pet to look just as good as you do right? I mean, these will be the family Christmas card i’m sure! Take time before your session to get your pet camera ready with a fresh new haircut and manicure. Because I can 100% promise I am going to want to a close up of their cute face.
